On Tuesday, Aaron went to Boys Town to have surgery to correct a tethered spinal cord, and the procedure went very well. He spent a day at the hospital sleeping and playing a new video game we got for his Switch, which kept him busy as he was recovering.

He came home the next day, and that evening, his friends at Royal Rangers had a card signed by all of them along with a gift — a new chess set to keep him busy (and to earn his Chess Merit). Then on Saturday, Grandma and Grandpa brought by a cookie cake later onto welcome Aaron home.

In the midst of this, our mutual friend Richard’s dad had passed way, so on Tuesday I went to Community Bible Church in Millard to attend the Memorial Service. I got to meet a few members of the Burney Family as well as catch up a bit with the handful of mutual friends we have form our days at “Great Adventures” over a decade ago, some of whim I hadn’t seen in several years.

We had some absolutely gorgeous fall weather in the meantime, sunny and warm enough for a couple bike rides in short sleeves and shorts, which was quite lovely for the middle of November.

On Friday night, I took Hannah by the Victory Apartments for a program with the American Heritage Girls (and a local Boy Scout Troop) to wish the residents a Happy Veterans Day. They did a few patriotic songs and recited some of their pledges and oaths.

Afterward, they took some “blessings bags” that they had stuffed and handed them out to the residents who had come down tot he gymnasium for the program. Afterward, they went upstairs to some of the residents quarters to knock on doors and hand them out to residents there before heading home (to have some of the spicy Ramen Vivian made for dinner).

Saturday morning, I went down with Hannah to Olde Town Bellevue to talk in a parade with Linda Vermooten, candidate for the Nebraska State Board of Education. She had a very good turnout for a race most people wouldn’t even have heard about four years ago. Lexi and her kids came along for the walk with us, as did our old friend Luke Taylor.

I was snapping photos all along the way as Hannah handed out candy We got some hot cocoa from a local church toward the end, and then I suggested Linda hang around for a photo op with Senator Deb Fischer, who was walking a ways behind us. Linda got to walk along with her for a block and even got a group picture with her entourage. I got a few photos of the two together, of course, though Deb was insistent that it wasn’t an endorsement yet (which I believe might be a rule with the RNC).

On Sunday, we had some lovely sunny weather in the 60s, so I dragged Hannah over to help rake leaves with Uncle Jonny for an hour or two. In years past she would have had fun jumping in the pile of leaves and making a nest, but she seemed to have outgrown some of that and was a bit more annoyed having to help with a household chore. Mostly, it was nice just to get out of the house and get some fresh air for a little bit before starting another week.
